- Explain the parts of a neuron to children before they start building a neuron model.
- Show how a neuron looks and some visual information to understand the concept of making a neuron model easily.
- Besides explaining the parts of a neuron, you can also explain to them the functions of a neuron and its role in the nervous system.
- Take a chart paper and draw an outline of a neuron with dendrites, axons and a cell body with a nucleus.
- Take a piece of play dough and make a circular-shaped structure. Paste it at the center of the chart paper as a cell body of a neuron.
- Then, take a small coffee bean and place it at the center of the playdough as a nucleus.
- Take a few colorful threads and stick them around the playdough to give the appearance of dendrites. Make sure that it looks like a branch-like structure.
- Then, take a long woolen thread and paste it below the playdough as an axon covered with another layer of thread as a myelin sheath.
- Later, paste a few woolen threads in the form of a branch-like structure at the tip of the axon to give an appearance of axon terminals.
- Label the parts of a neuron with a marker.
