Divisibility Rules Worksheets

Use These Divisibility Rules Worksheets And Learn How To Divide Numbers Like A Pro!

Like addition, subtraction and multiplication, division is one of the basic operations of Arithmetic. When you divide something, it means you separate it or share it into equal parts. So when you divide a number, you’re splitting it into equal parts. Like subtraction is the inverse operation of addition, division is the inverse operation of multiplication. Division can be denoted by any of the following 3 symbols – the slash ( / ), the horizontal line ( ) or the division symbol ( ÷ ). Divisibility rules make learning division easier, and help your child learn to divide easily using these divisibility rules worksheets.

Math is not always easy to understand, some children have more difficulty understanding math concepts than others. In such cases, you’ll need to explore different methods of teaching a concept. Sure math is full of problems, but it doesn’t have to make your life problematic. Sometimes a problem just needs a bit of patience and exploring it from a different angle. And a few tips and tricks here and there will also make your life a lot easier when you’re teaching math to your kid. Divisibility rules are one such trick. Use these divisibility rules worksheets to help your child learn the divisibility rules or tests.

These rules will help your kids understand whether a particular number is divisible by other numbers. If division problems aren’t your child’s strong suit, division calculations can prove to be problematic. But a good knowledge of divisibility rules will get them out of that particular pickle!

Divisibility rules from 1 to 10

Divisibility rules for 1

The divisibility rule for 1 is very simple. All numbers are divisible by the number 1, irrespective of whether it’s a large number or a small number. When you divide a number by 1, you get the same number as the answer. For example: 2 ÷ 1 = 2. Or,123456789 ÷ 1 = 123456789.

Divisibility rules for 2

Any number, which has 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 as the last digit is divisible by 2. For example: 20 ÷ 2 = 10. Or, 44 ÷ 2 = 22.

Divisibility rules for 3

A number is completely divisible by 3 if the sum of the numbers can be divided by 3 or is a multiple of 3. For example: Let’s find out if 308 is divisible by 3. Add the digits in the number. So, 3 + 0 = 8 = 11. 11 is not divisible by 3, so 308 cannot be divided by 2.

Let’s try another number, let’s check if 285 can be divided by 3. Add the digits, 2 + 8 + 5 = 15. 3 multiplied by 5 is 15, so 285 is divisible by 3.

Divisibility test for 4

If the last two digits of the number can be divided by 4, then that number is divisible by 4. For example: let’s check if 2508 can be divisible by 4. The last two digits of the number are 08, which is divisible by 4. 8 ÷ 4 = 2. So, 2508 is divisible by 4.

Divisibility test for 5

Any number that has 0 and 5 at the end can be divided by 5. For example: 55 ÷ 5 = 11 and 2200 ÷ 5 = 440.

Divisibility test for 6

Any number which has an even number or 0 as the last digit and the sum of the numbers is divisible by 3 can be divided by 6. For example: let’s find out if 270 can be divided by 6. The sum of the digits ( 2 + 7 + 0) = 9. 9 is divisible by 3. Therefore, 270 can be divided by 6.

Divisible rule for 7

Here is a formula to find out if a number is divisible by 7. First, double the last digit of the number and then subtract it from the remaining number. If the answer is divisible by 7, then the original number is also divisible by 7. For example: Let’s find out if 343 is divisible by 7. First, multiply the last digit by 2. So, 3 X 2 =6.

Then, subtract it from the remaining number. So, 34 – 6 = 28.

28 ÷ 7 = 4. Since 28 is divisible by 7, 343 is also divisible by 7.

Divisible rule for 9

If the sum of the digits is divisible by 9, then that number can be divided by 9. For example: Let’s find out if 7686 is divisible by 9.

First add the digits, 7 + 6 + 8 + 6 = 27.

27 ÷ 9 = 3. Since 27 is divisible by 9, 7686 is also divisible by 9.

Divisible rule for 10

Any number that ends with 0 is divisible by 10. For example: 7690 ÷ 10 = 769.

Divisibility rules or tests

Divisibility rules or tests tell you whether a number is divisible by another number without having to do a lot of calculations. For a number to be divisible by another number, the result or quotient should be a whole number and the remainder should be 0. But we know that there are several numbers, which cannot be completely divided by other numbers. These divisibility rules will help us find a number’s actual divisor by just examining the digits in that number. Learning the divisibility rules from 1 to 10 is really beneficial for your child. It’ll help them solve division problems quickly and easily.
