Whether it’s counting money or making a bank deposit, or shopping or measuring ingredients when you’re cooking, you’ll find addition everywhere. Addition coloring worksheets are the best way to introduce your little one to the world of adding numbers.

Little kids are bundles of energy. They love to play, color and do things that are fun and entertaining. Getting them to sit in a place and learn the concepts of addition could prove to be difficult. But it’s necessary for your child to learn how to add. So the best way to get little kids to learn or do something they don’t want to is to make it more interesting and hands-on. Addition coloring worksheets combine a child’s favorite activity, coloring, with adding numbers to help your little one learn addition easily.

Kids are naturally curious but they need a lot of entertainment. When you add play and learning together, it’ll surely get your kids interested. Most kids love to draw and color. This is probably the few times that they actually put pen (or crayons) to paper willingly. So, let’s add addition coloring worksheets to their math class and make it more interesting for them. Addition coloring worksheets are a great way to help your little one learn how to add.

After all, very few kids will say no to an afternoon of coloring! The only difference is this time, they can’t color as they wish, it’ll be a bit more structured.

Before you hand them the addition coloring worksheet, you need to ensure that your child knows what addition is. They should also be able to add at least single-digit numbers.

Explain to your child that addition is the total sum of two numbers that are added. It is the process of increasing something or making it more. Kids already know what “more” is. They are always asking for more candy, more toys or more cookies. So, they understand that when they ask for “more” they’re asking for more than 1. This makes your job easier.

Now, explain that when two numbers are added, the answer is more than both those numbers. Use physical objects to help them understand the concept.

For example: Place two cookies in front of your child and ask them to count them. Then place another two cookies in front of the child and ask them how many cookies are there in total.

Addition Facts

A great way to reinforce this knowledge is to teach your child the addition facts. Once they have the addition facts down, learning elementary arithmetic becomes much easier for your kindergartner. Here is a chart of the addition facts from 0+0 to 10+10.
